STFM Staff

Commitment to quality and service. Commitment to you, our members (and ultimately, the people to whom we are accountable). As STFM activities have grown, so has the demand for multitalented staff with an eye for this core value of service. STFM has a staff of 17 people who provide support to the Society’s members, its Board of Directors, committees, and groups. Each has distinct areas of responsibility, but all work together to accomplish the Society’s goals. Staff phone numbers and e-mail addresses are available on our Web site.

Executive Department
STFM’s most visible staff member is Executive Director Roger Sherwood, CAE. With the Society since 1981, Roger manages the day-to-day activities of STFM, oversees all fiscal matters, and works closely with the president and the Board. He facilitates the operations of task forces, groups, and special committees, represents STFM on federal projects and special projects with other organizations, and serves as executive director of the STFM Foundation. Kay Frank, executive assistant, provides support to the executive director and to special projects of STFM. She staffs the meetings of the Board, the STFM Foundation, and the Research Committee.

Deputy Executive Director Stacy Brungardt, CAE, oversees the program, communications, and membership departments of STFM and staffs the Education Committee. She also staffs key projects for STFM, including the Predoctoral Director Development Institute, Future Family Docs, Entering Resident Academy, and other FFM initiatives. In the absence of the executive director, she manages the day-to-day activities of the organization. She also serves as executive director for the North American Primary Care Research Group. Administrative Assistant Kelly Parry provides staff support to the deputy executive director and program support for NAPCRG, including NAPCRG registration, database oversight, and Web site updates. While her main duty as member services assistant is to answer the many calls from STFM members, Jean Schuler also provides administrative assistance to the multiple departments within the Society and maintains subscription records for Family Medicine and The Teaching Physician.

Government Relations
Hope Wittenberg, MA, is the Society’s government relations director in Washington, DC. She works on legislative initiatives of importance to family medicine education. Her position is partly funded by other family organizations, and she staffs STFM’s Legislative Affairs Committee and the AFMO Legislation and Federal Advocacy Subcommittee. Kathryn DiBitetto, government relations assistant, provides valuable assistance to Hope.

Accounting Department
Dana Greco, chief financial officer, handles the Society’s accounting matters, including preparing and analyzing financial statements, developing and monitoring the budget, issuing checks, balancing the books, and coordinating the annual audit.

Program Department
Meetings and Program Director Ray Rosetta, CMP, coordinates the planning and arrangements for all Society meetings and conferences and Board and committee meetings. He handles site selection, event coordination, and speaker arrangements. He also staffs the Program Committee. Senior Meeting Planner Priscilla Noland handles registration for all meetings and conferences, assists in meeting coordination, oversees conference exhibits, and serves as administrative director to the Association of Departments of Family Medicine. Margaret Henry, member services assistant, provides staff assistance to the Program and Membership departments within STFM.

Communications Department
Communications Director Traci Nolte is the managing publisher of Family Medicine and the editor of the STFM Messenger. She directs the publishing and printing activities of the Society, coordinates organizational marketing, oversees STFM electronic communications services, including STFM’s Family Medicine Digital Resources Library, and staffs the Communications Committee. Jan Cartwright, editorial assistant, provides editorial services for Family Medicine, the STFM Messenger, and the Teaching Physician. She assists the communications director with the production of publications and the coordination of other departmental activities. Bruce Phillips, Web developer/information technology support specialist, has numerous responsibilities, which include all Web development and maintenance of the Society’s Web site, www.stfm.org, as well as database administration for STFM. He also serves as a valued resource to staff on technology issues.

As membership coordinator, Mary Ruhl maintains membership records and coordinates recruitment and retention activities. She also handles publication and gift orders and staffs the Membership Committee.

Development Department
