President's FY 2006 Budget

On February 7, 2005, President Bush released his budget. As expected, The Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry Cluster funded under Title VII was zeroed out again. We will have another uphill battle to secure funding for FY06. Additional background on the President’s budget can be found below.

Alert: This alert was sent to those who have a Senator or Representative on the respective Budget Committees as they will be marking up the FY 06 budget resolutions early March.

Request to Representative/Senator

• Urge them to restore the $3.5 billion cut from discretionary health programs (under Function 550 in the President’s budget proposal)
• Reject any budget resolution that includes instructions to cut funding to the Medicare and Medicaid programs
• Emphasize the need to oppose discretionary spending caps that would freeze funding for health programs below the current year’s level
