STFM Member Judy Washington, MD is Associate Director of the Overlook Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program and has been an STFM member since 1998.

Judy's Story: STFM is my lifeline and has provided mentors, sponsors and a network of colleagues with whom I collaborate and create new programs to support underrepresented in medicine (URM) medical students, residents and faculty. Through the STFM Foundation’s Project Fund grants, the Minority and Multicultural Collaborative was able to send URM medical students to STFM conferences, provide an opportunity for URM community preceptors to attend STFM, create a writing grant for URM faculty, fund the “The Ladder Program” curriculum, and provide a mentoring program for URM faculty.

Paying It Forward: I wanted to give back in a big way, to acknowledge the impact STFM and the STFM Foundation has had on my life. I started with a monthly donation of $5 and increased my donation when I witnessed the impact I was having on the future of family medicine. This year, I reached the $5,000 threshold of lifetime giving to the STFM Foundation, allowing me to join the Light the Torch Club.

Light the Torch: Transforming the future of family medicine would not be possible without the generosity of Judy Washington and countless other STFM members and supporters. Through these donations, the STFM Foundation supports STFM's priority to develop the pipeline for academic family medicine.
