Physician Membership

Who: Any physician who is in a teaching position or actively involved in the organization, administration, or promotion of family medicine

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

2026 Membership Price: $405

Other FM Educator Membership

Who: Any individual, who is not a physician, who is in a teaching position or is actively involved in the organization, administration, or promotion of family medicine. Examples include pharmacists, behavioral scientists, physician assistants, researchers, social workers, etc.

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31

2026 Membership Price: $270

60 years or older? Consider a lifetime membership.

Associate Membership

Who: Faculty (employed and community) who devote no more than 10 hours per week or 3 months per year to teaching 

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

2026 Membership Price: $175

Coordinator Membership

Who: Any individual who is in a coordinator position (examples include medical student education coordinators, residency coordinators, clerkship coordinators)

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

2026 Membership Price: $175

International Membership

Who: Any individual who either holds a teaching position or is actively involved in the organization, administration, or promotion of family medicine who resides outside the United States or Canada

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

2026 Membership Price: $175

Affiliate (Student, Resident, Fellow)

Who: Any individual who is a medical student, resident, or fellow-in-training in an approved family medicine program or department

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31. An Affiliate Membership shall automatically terminate at the close of the year in which the Affiliate Member shall cease to meet the initial status qualifications for such membership.

2026 Membership Prices: $130 for fellows, $60 for residents, and free for students

Emeritus Membership

Who: Any individual, retired or age 70 or over, who has been an STFM member for 10 or more years

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

2026 Membership Price: Free with a complimentary digital subscription to Family Medicine journal

Lifetime Membership

Who: Any individual who is age 60 or older. This category provides full membership—for a lifetime—with voting rights and is a fantastic way to honor retiring faculty for their service.

When: Memberships run the calendar year, from January 1–December 31.

One-Time Membership Fee:

  • $2,500 for physicians
  • $1,800 for other family medicine educators

Is STFM Only for Full-Time Educators?

STFM is open to anyone involved in family medicine education.

I'm a Student/Resident. What Does STFM Have for Me?

STFM has many resources for students and residents. For more information, visit our residents resources and students resources pages.

How long is the membership year?

The STFM membership year reflects the calendar year, running from January 1 to December 31.

When Should I Renew My Membership?

All STFM memberships are valid for one calendar year, and all accounts must be renewed by December 31. STFM accepts renewal payments starting September 1 and will issue renewal reminders starting mid-September. We understand CME budgets and deadlines can vary widely and do our best to accommodate our members needs. If you need to renew your membership due to budgetary constraints before September 1, please email Emily Nitcher at enitcher@stfm.org.

Is My Membership Payment Tax-Deductible?

STFM dues are not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution. However, dues payments may be partially deductible (90% of the dues) as a business expense. Donations to the STFM Foundation are tax-deductible.

What Are My Payment Options if I Renew Online?

You can renew online using a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

How Do I Log In?

If you have an account with STFM, click on My Account in the upper right corner of the website to log in.If you'd like to become a member of STFM, click join in the upper right corner of the website, then click on join online in the correct member category.If you'd like to create an account with STFM without becoming a member, click on My Account in the upper right corner of the website, then click on Create My Account and follow the instructions. 

When Will I Receive My Member Welcome Packet?

Member welcome packets will arrive 2–3 weeks after you join STFM. However, you will have immediate access to all of our online resources the moment you join.
