Overview of New Faculty Scholars Program
The STFM New Faculty Scholars Programs helps early career faculty develop leadership and scholarship skills. Designed to be a catalyst for developing future STFM and academic family medicine leaders, the New Faculty Scholars program provides 1 year of coaching, learning, and networking opportunities both with senior leadership and other new faculty. Thanks to generous support from donors, the STFM Foundation is able to provide additional mentoring and scholarship opportunities. Additional scholarships are available for those who have faced significant challenges, limitations, or obstacles in their journey to a career in family medicine.
What the Scholarship Covers: Scholars present and are recognized at the STFM Spring Annual Conference. Scholars receive up to $1000, provided by the STFM Foundation, to cover expenses to travel to and present at the STFM Annual Spring Conference.
Scholars applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Be a faculty member at a family medicine department or family medicine residency program and employed in academic family medicine for a minimum of 2 years and no more than 4 years at time of application deadline
- Not currently be a full-time fellow. Applicants may be enrolled in part-time fellowships if they are faculty (see item 2 above)
- Not be a current member of a board of directors or standing committee of STFM, the North American Primary Care Research Group, or the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors
- Agree to attend the STFM Annual Spring Conference
- Present a session at the conference as leader presenter (if the scholar’s presentation is not accepted through the call for papers process, the scholar will present as a poster)
- Plan to attend the Faculty for Tomorrow Preconference Workshop held 1 day prior to the STFM Annual Spring Conference (May 2–6, 2026) in New Orleans, LA

Testimonials From Past New Faculty Scholars
"Connecting me with an academic mentor in family medicine was of great emotional and professional support. My institution did not focus on academic development, so this filled an important gap in my education and resources."
"The New Faculty Scholars program was invaluable to me as an early career academic faculty member. The camaraderie and mentorship I received as a New Faculty Scholar helped me to make meaningful connections within STFM and to build the foundational skills of inquiry and scholarship necessary to be a successful academic clinician."
