Family Medicine Organizations Share Status on Pilot Project
February 16, 2022—The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) recently began to pilot a supplemental application process (separate from ERAS) designed to help students share more about themselves and assist residency programs in finding applicants that fit their setting and mission. Applicants are asked to provide geographic information (by region or by urban/suburban/rural setting), information about their most meaningful work, volunteer or research experiences, and preference signals.
The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors has engaged in conversations with the AAMC, as well as the Council of Academic Family Medicine organizations and the American Academy of Family Physicians. These organizations felt that now was not the right time to achieve consensus to move forward with the pilot for 2022-23. Conversations will continue within family medicine and the AAMC during the next year to decide if family medicine should participate in the pilot in the future.
