Leadership Through Scholarship Fellowship Now Accepting Applications

Benefit From a Curriculum Tailored for URM Faculty and Forming Deep Mentorship Relationships

April 26, 2024—The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's Leadership Through Scholarship Fellowship is now accepting applications. The yearlong Leadership through Scholarship Fellowship offers training and mentorship for early-career underrepresented in medicine (URM) minority faculty with a focus on developing scholarly writing skills for academic advancement and leadership. 

Fellows will benefit from a curriculum tailored for URM faculty and deep mentorship relationships to:

  • Develop a personalized leadership & career roadmap 
  • Learn how to recognize, navigate, and overcome the minority tax 
  • Create a research question tailored to their specific academic responsibilities and from topics that are important to them
  • Identify opportunities for scholarship both within and without their institution  
  • Write up and submit at least one manuscript with the coaching and co-authorship of faculty and peer mentors

Applicants must be

  • Current STFM members. If you're not a member and you're interested in the fellowship, you can join STFM online.
  • URM faculty member at assistant professor or instructor rank, with 2 - 5 years at your current level preferred
  • Commitment to attend monthly Zoom meetings, currently scheduled for third Thursdays at 5pm-6:30 pm CT. 
  • Committed to attend in-person workshops on October 3-4, 2024, March 3-4, 2025, and the STFM Annual Conference on May 3-7, 2025.

Download the application (Word). Apply by Monday, May 20, 2024. Up to 12 fellows will be accepted in 2024 and notified by June. The fellowship starts on July 25, 2024.
