STFM Launches Research Collaborative for Members
STFM's new collaborative aims to strengthen research interests and capabilities among family medicine educators, residents, and others in the specialty.
October 2, 2026—STFM has launched a new collaborative, the Research Collaborative, to encourage interaction of members interested in research within academic family medicine. The collaborative is open for members to join and begin discussions. The STFM Research Collaborative aims to strengthen research interest and capabilities among family medicine educators, residents, and early-career investigators. This collaborative will complement the STFM Research Committee and the imminent Family Medicine Scholarship Academy by facilitating mentorship, informal consultation, and shared resources that support research in family medicine. Through networking and multi-institutional collaboration, this group will expand the number of family medicine educators who actively participate in scholarly work and contribute to the discipline's evidence base. The inaugural co-chairs of the collaborative are Rebecca Grace Maddrell, MD, Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, and James Wilcox, MD, United Arab Emirates University. They feel the Research Collaborative is crucial for providing family medicine educators with access to answers for their research questions or support to move research ideas forward.
“The Research Collaborative grew out of that desire by building a welcoming community where members can exchange expertise, develop cross-institutional partnerships, and grow as investigators,” Dr Wilcox says. “Whether you are pursuing your first project or are an experienced researcher looking to mentor and collaborate with others, we hope you will join us."Adds Dr Maddrell, “Your clinical questions deserve a voice. Connect with colleagues, contribute your perspective, and help generate evidence that is relevant to the patients and communities we serve.”
