Family Medicine is one of the academic journals published by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.The three new editors are: Yohualli Anaya, MD (deputy editor for DEIA); Yajaira Johnson-Esparza, PhD (associate editor); and Velyn Wu, MD, MACM (associate editor). Yohualli Anaya, MD
Dr Anaya has joined the editorial team as deputy editor for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). She is associate professor at the University of Wisconsin in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. She is also co-director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture (CESLAC) Accelerating Leadership Institute.Dr Anaya previously served as the UCLA Family Medicine Core Clerkship co‑chair. She brings expertise in educating preclinical and clinical learners and in leadership development for the health profession workforce.
Yajaira Johnson-Esparza, PhD
Dr Johnson-Esparza is an associate professor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, where she also serves as the director of behavioral health education. Her academic expertise is in behavioral science/health education, patient-centered communication, and evidence-based behavioral interventions. Her research focuses on integrated primary care.
Velyn Wu, MD, MACM
Dr Wu is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine at the University of Florida—Jacksonville. She has experience in curriculum redesign initiatives at both the medical student and residency education levels.Dr Wu enjoys developing innovative, active, and thought-provoking learning activities. Her academic focus is on competency-based medical education, career and performance coaching, faculty development, point-of-care ultrasound, and sports medicine.
