Committee members serve 2-year terms and are eligible for additional 2-year terms based on an invitation by the committee chair, acceptance by the individual, and approval by the STFM Board of Directors.There are 11 openings among the STFM committees.

STFM is seeking applications for open committee positions. Apply by September 21, 2026, to be considered for any of the 11 openings.
How to Apply
Please submit a statement of interest outlining your relevant experience in the areas listed below. Bullet-point responses are preferred, and the statement should not exceed two pages.
- Length of time in any family medicine faculty position
- Previous committee or group experience (specify STFM, other non-profit, or other)
- Relevant scholarly work
- Other special characteristics, perspectives, and/or experiences that would make you a strong contributor to an STFM committee
For consideration for the 2027 committee member openings, please send your statement of interest and committee application form to Mary Williams by September 21, 2026.Applicants can expect to be notified of the STFM Board of Directors' decision in early December 2026.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility Committee
How many openings are there? TwoThe STFM Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee represents the interests of family medicine by providing legislative and regulatory recommendations to US Congress and the executive administration. Additionally, the committee monitors and advocates for academic family medicine positions to appropriate government agencies.
Graduate Medical Education Committee
How many openings are there? TwoThe STFM Graduate Medical Education Committee provides insight and resources to address the issues and needs of family medicine residency educators and their programs.
Program Committee
How many openings are there? OneThe STFM Program Committee reviews submissions and plans the STFM Annual Spring Conference, which serves as a showcase for the latest developments in family medicine education and research.
Research Committee
How many openings are there? ThreeThe STFM Research Committee reviews research submissions for the STFM Annual Spring Conference and promotes the continued development of researchers and research activities in family medicine. Openings include:
- Committee Member: Two openings
- Fellow Representative: One opening (NOTE: One-year term); MUST be in a fellowship for the majority of the term May 2027–May 2028.
Medical Student Education Committee

ThreeThe STFM Medical Student Education Committee provides insight and resources to address the needs of family medicine departments and educators, plans the STFM Conference on Medical Student Education, and organizes the STFM track for the American Academy of Family Physicians FUTURE Conference.
