Aggregated Resources on Reducing Mental Health Stigma

January 10, 2023—Health care professionals, including faculty, residents, and students, are reluctant to seek mental health treatment due to concerns about licensure and the perceptions of supervisors, peers, and patients. As an early step in STFM's efforts to address this stigma, an STFM work group, led by STFM President Linda Myerholtz, PhD, has aggregated resources on reducing mental health stigma for faculty, residents, and students. These resources are free and openly available on the STFM website.

STFM staff and leaders have also been meeting with other national organizations to discuss collaboration strategies for advocating for changes to medical licensure, credentialing, and insurance applications.

At its February 2023 meeting, the STFM Board of Directors will be discussing a proposal for ongoing work by staff and members to destigmatize mental health treatment. This work aligns with STFM's strategic priority to “promote well-being at the personal and system level.”
